Boys Scholarship Dance Program – Ages 7+
The Wilmington Ballet offers a tuition-free Boys Scholarship Dance Program for boys age 7 – 18 years old. Ballet enhances the participant’s athletic skills, strength, self-discipline, flexibility, mental focus, musicality, team work, and creativity. Classes include beginner through advanced levels of Men's Technique. Participants have performance opportunities in the Wilmington Ballet’s annual performance of The Nutcracker at the historic Playhouse on Rodney Square, the annual Spring Performance, and other productions throughout the year.
Students accepted into the program will be trained by faculty members of the academy led by Executive Artistic Director Ann Cole. Acceptance into the program is by audition, although no prior dance experience is required.
Basic ballet technique building vocabulary, strength, and movement with an emphasis on working towards men’s ballet skills such as jumps, turns, presentation, and combinations. This class builds on basic ballet training learned in the other technique classes. While this class is boys only, students are also encouraged to enroll in other co-ed classes at no cost. With progress, boys may also be instructed in partnering techniques.
